AH Fencing was selected by Bryant Building Contractors to deliver a critical infrastructure project at the EQL Cairns Depot. The project scope included the installation of 550 meters of 2400H Industrial spear-top fencing, finished in a sophisticated monument colour. This project was not only a demonstration of AH Fencing’s commitment to delivering high-quality, secure fencing solutions but also highlighted our adaptability and sensitivity to unique environmental and historical considerations.
Project Details
- Client: Bryant Building Contractors
- Project: EQL Cairns Depot Fencing Installation
- Scope: 550m of 2400H Industrial Spear-Top Fencing in Monument Colour
- Duration: 6 weeks
- Location: Cairns, Queensland
Challenges
The EQL Cairns Depot project presented two primary challenges that required innovative thinking and careful planning:
- Proximity to Unmarked Graves: The project’s location next to a cemetery with unmarked graves necessitated a highly cautious approach to excavation to ensure respect and preservation of the site’s integrity.
- Corrosion Risk Due to Coastal Proximity: Located just 700 meters from the shoreline, the fencing materials were at a high risk of corrosion due to salt spray and humid conditions, demanding additional protective measures.
Solutions and Strategies
In response to these challenges, AH Fencing implemented several targeted strategies:
- Vacuum Excavation Techniques: To mitigate the risk of disturbing the cemetery’s unmarked graves, we employed vacuum excavation. This non-invasive technique allowed for safe digging by removing soil with high-powered vacuum suction, minimizing the impact on the adjacent historical site.
- Corrosion Protection: Understanding the corrosive potential of the coastal environment, we took proactive steps to ensure the longevity of the fence. All panels were hot-dip galvanized before receiving a powder coating. This two-step process provided a durable barrier against corrosion, significantly extending the life of the fence in harsh conditions.
Outcomes
- Historical Site Preservation: Through the use of vacuum excavation, AH Fencing ensured that the historical integrity of the neighboring cemetery was maintained, with no disturbance to the unmarked graves.
- Durability in Coastal Environment: The hot-dip galvanization followed by powder coating ensured that the fence would withstand the corrosive coastal elements, maintaining its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal over time.
- Client Satisfaction: Bryant Building Contractors and EQL Cairns Depot expressed high satisfaction with the project’s execution, particularly noting AH Fencing’s attention to detail, respect for the sensitive nature of the site, and the quality of the finished product.
Conclusion
The EQL Cairns Depot project exemplifies AH Fencing’s ability to navigate complex challenges through thoughtful planning, respect for historical and environmental considerations, and commitment to quality. This project not only enhanced the security and aesthetics of the EQL Cairns Depot but also demonstrated AH Fencing’s capabilities in delivering specialized fencing solutions that meet and exceed client expectations, even in the most challenging conditions.
